Ravenswood, a neighborhood on Indianapolis’s northeast side, was severely impacted by the historic flooding in August 2026. It will take years for the neighborhood, and the people who call it home, to recover.
As the flood waters receded, residents came together to work on rebuilding. Part of our recovery efforts involve a neighborhood donation center and recovery hub. Glendale Christian Church graciously offered up part of their church to be used for the donation center.
Ravenswood needs help in the form of volunteers to keep the donation center going. If you have even an hour of free time, please sign up for a shift or show up at 1788 Haynes Avenue.
Volunteers help with the following:
- Donation Drop-Off Team: Welcome community members bringing donations and help receive, sort, and organize incoming items.
- Donation Sorting & Organization: Help receive, sort, categorize, and organize donated items so supplies are easy to locate and distribute.
- Resident Needs Coordinator: Listen to residents, document their requests and emerging needs, and communicate those needs through the appropriate channels for follow-up.
- Inventory & Needs Tracking: Maintain an accurate picture of available supplies and help identify what is needed most.
- Food Coordination: Help coordinate food donations, deliveries, storage, and distribution.
- Resource Hub Organization: Help keep the church/resource hub clean, welcoming, organized, and easy for residents and volunteers to navigate.
When you arrive to the donation center, sign in at the table under the outside tent and grab a name tag. Find another volunteer (we wear name tags) and they will help get you going.
